The Yellow Wallpaper - Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Did anyone ever read The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman? If not, you should, you get to see a mentally unstable woman unravel in front of your eyes through their voice. (Not Gilman per se but her Character) She obsesses about The Yellow Wallpaper. It's starts out slow and then inevitably turns into an all out obsession. She starts to become the wallpaper, she starts to hide within it, she lets herself get lost  in it. It seems the only time she was sane was when she was writing, when she felt intellectual, when she had work to do, when her mind wasn't idle. This is so me right now.

I'm sitting in a cubicle day in and day out waiting for work to come my way, and when it does I'm trapped in a room with engineers going over software requirements, 233 to be exact. I don't want to obsess about the requirements, I don't want to become the requirements, I don't want to get lost in them. I need to find my way out, do I use the window, do I sneak past the guards, WHAT DO I DO!!

Ah yes, I know, I write tonight, and then I write tomorrow, I write what I feel and the only requirements are my own.

  1. I have read the Yellow Wallpaper. It's a chilling story that is exquisitely told. I should probably read it again as I am trying to learn more about different writing styles. It's amazing how the author left blanks that not only added to the story but almost terrorized the reader. Sometimes gaps leave more room for imagination.

  2. Yes, yes you're so right, the blanks were an awesome writing tool! I need to read it again too, it might need to be one of those yearly readings I do! BTW, thank you so much for following me.
